♥ Day 65 Mono Orange Juice ♥

Day ♥ 65

Blood Oranges

In 1936, a child
in Hitler's Germany,
what did I know about the war in Spain?
Andalusia was a tango
on a wind-up gramophone,
Franco a hero's face in the paper.
No one told me about a poet
for whose sake I might have learned Spanish
bleeding to death on a barren hill.
All I knew of Spain
were those precious imported treats
we splurged on for Christmas.
I remember pulling the sections apart,
lining them up, sucking each one
slowly, so the red sweetness
would last and last -

while I was reading a poem
by a long-dead German poet
in which the woods stood safe
under the moon's milky eye
and the white fog in the meadows
aspired to become lighter than air.

Lisel Mueller

I must admit to a bit of a penchant for Blood Oranges, especially the really dark red ones from Sicily. I would have to say the juice from Sicilian Bloods is one of the most glorious drinks to have ever passed my lips ♥
At the moment Bloods are not in season in Australia and although the Blood Orange will grow in Queensland, because the Winter does not get very cold, the Bloods will not get such a deep red colour. So the very beautiful rich winey flavour that accompanies the deep rich colour needs a nice cold winter to develop.
Since starting my Orange juice diet, I have had Valencia juice for the vast majority of my daily juice, with just the odd Navel or Honey Murcott.
But as I find each individual fruit to have its own unique taste and flavour, I have never tired from the dear sweet Valencias ♥
I think that looking forward each day to my Orange juice, when the house has been filled with Durian, fresh Figs, Home-grown Mangoes, and local Lychees, is a good indication that the juice is still working for me and fulfilling my needs.
And I do feel very blessed to have had access to so many delightful Organic Oranges. The Organic aspect has been very important to me. It feels good to be consuming Organic fruit from both a health and an environmental perspective, and the Organic fruit feels very precious to me ♥

♥ Day 48 ♥ Mono Orange Juice.

Day 48 ♥
Today I was blessed with a beautiful mix of Organic Oranges: some delightful, teeny-tiny syrup balls from a wholefood store in Maroochydore, some larger Valencias from a supermarket, and some very nicely ripened delights from Maleny.
I was also blessed with some great reading matter.
I  managed to find Dick Gregory's book, 'Natural Diet for Folks Who Eat: Cookin' With Mother Nature.'
I managed to pick up a first edition from 1971 for just $7 on Ebay.
Gregory was a well known comedian who turned his health and diet right around by going from 280lbs to just 97lbs after an extended water fast.
When he wrote the book in the late 60's/early 70's Gregory was on a fruitarian diet. I saw a more recent video of him speaking out against the factory farming of chickens.
I have just started his book, and it is written in a punchy and entertaining way. A great book to introduce folk to the raw way of life by using  personal experience combined with a good sense of humour.

I did not miss eating the Figs, sure I could appreciate that they were great quality ripe Figs, but I could appreciate more the wonderful Organic  Oranges that I had yesterday.
I feel that I would like to carry on for at least 52 days, to match my longest mono Orange Juice Diet so far, back in 1995.
And hopefully, I have a big Organic order arriving tomorrow full of juicy local Oranges ♥
Life is so abundant for me, and I need to fully appreciate the beautiful abundance in my life right now!

Day 47 ♥ Mono Orange Juice.

Day 47 ♥
Cappi chose a great book the last time he went to the library.
It is called: 'The Digger's Club: The Australian Fruit and Vegetable Garden' by Clive Blazey and Jane Varkulevicius.
While it may be considered a little odd for a five year old to pick a fruit-growing book from the library, I guess a child raised on a natural diet is not your average library customer.

I was very grateful for Cappi's choice because this is an awesome book. Not only does it give lots of useful information on growing your own food, but it is really on the ball in regard to how Supermarkets and chemicals are greatly affecting our fruit quality and choices.

Here are a few of the paragraph titles:
Destroying Food Quality
showing how picking fruit unripe and treating fruit with chemicals vastly reduces its nutrient content and quality.

Ninety Percent of Fruit and Vegetable Cultivars Are Lost.
Shows how, for example, at the  turn of the 20th. Century there used to be three to four thousand Apple Varieties, but now they have been replaced by 4 or 5 main supermarket varieties. These supermarket varieties are always chosen for shelf life over flavour and quality.

The Tastiest Fruits Never reach Market.
Explains how important it is to rescue and grow the old heirloom varieties, rather than rely on the supermarket fruits that are selected for storage life.

Planting Fruit Instead of Flowers.
looks at how the fruit garden can be beautiful to look at as well as functional.
"Isn't a persimmon in autumn as exquisite as any magnolia in spring."

Quality of Life Begins at the Table.
This section looks at how people can become self-sufficient in food production and in doing so help rescue the precious heirloom fruits and vegetables.

A really great book, that is geared for Australian growers, in terms of specific advice for the different growing regions in Australia, but has got great information in it that is relevant to everyone who values great quality fresh produce.

We went to the beach today. It is so beautiful breathing the  fresh and vitalising briny air.
I did a fast walk from Cotton Tree beach to Alexandra Headlands and back, and it felt just wonderful.
I had the sea breezes in my lungs and the beautiful sun on my body ♥

As we were in the area, we went buying Figs from the best Fig grower we have found on the Sunshine Coast.
I looked at the plump and Jammy purple Figs, just starting to burst open (this grower is unusual in that they pick all their Figs perfectly ripe) but I was not quite ready to stop the Orange juice. The Figs have just come into season and will be around for the next two months.

Fruity Fare ♥
Morning—the juice from 3 conventional Oranges, juiced in a hand juicer.
Late Morning—a large cup of fresh squeezed non-organic Orange juice from a juice bar.
Afternoon—10 Organic Oranges, juiced in my mouth.
