64 Ways to Eat Food
Mr. Michael Pollan just came out with a new book: Food Rules and Eater's Manuel. I can't wait to read it! The book includes 64 rules that are loaded with simple and practical advice. The three major sections of the book include: Eat Food, Mostly Plants, and Not too Much. I'll blog more once I get my hands on a copy and find some 'free' time to read. Click here to read more on this new book!
Days ♥ 41, 42, & 43 ♥
I have been off the computer for a few days as Cappi and I have spent a very lovely three days at Byron Bay in the North of New South Wales. Beautiful Beaches, plenty of backpackers, and lots of people and Dogs enjoying the waves.
We went to stay with a raw food lady Jess and her boyfriend Say; also staying were Freelea, Julie, Harley, Darrick, Nick, and Stephen.
Cappi was really excited to meet so many fruit lovers all in one place ♥
Such a wonderful bunch of people ♥
The beach, company and fruit were excellent and Byron is such a beautiful setting for all three.
Nick shared some great Oranges with me, they were Biodynamic ones grown in NSW.
It was a lovely three days in my Orange juice diet.
Some of the Biodynamic Oranges were the best I have had since starting this Orange Delight.
The sea air was a real energiser, as was spending time with other like-minded folk ♥

♥ Day 40 Mono Orange Juice ♥
Day ♥40♥
Kind of a special day for me. Somehow the '40 days' holds a special significance for me.
I have often done 40 day mono diets for Lent, although many of them carried on past Lent because I was having such a good time ♥
Jesus fasted for 40 days in the wilderness, and it does seem a significant number related to a dietary period.
The last few days I have been really loving the juice. A week or so back when the Orange supply was not so good, it felt a bit challenging but now it just feels great and the 'normal' diet for me.
I do however, want at some point to try our homegrown Mangoes which are now well into their season. I may have a break of a few days to try some Mangoes, or I may just carry on.
This morning we went up to Maleny and got lots of the smaller syrupy Valencias that no one else seems to pick first, so my juice today has been sublime.
I also finished reading Tonya Zavasta's book, and started to read, 'The Orange: Golden Joy' by John Train, with photos by Mark E. Smith.
There are some amazing photos of orangeries and Orange groves.
The book looks at the history of the Orange and the Orange in art.
And includes some poems:
To His Coy One
O Orange,
Thou ripe and juicy Orange,
Thou sweet and luscious Orange
I shake the tree, I shake it,
O fall into my lap!
Goethe
I like how Goethe uses capitalisation to begin his fruit too ♥
I had a nice conversation today with a lady who has an Organic farm and an Organic delivery business. She grows Valencias on her farm, but they are just out of season, but good to know for next year.
I love connecting with fruit growers. She was also interested in the fruitarian diet.

♥ Day 39 Mono Orange Juice ♥
Day 39 ♥
Today, I recieved in the post a small booklet published by the Californian Fruit Growers Exchange in, I believe, the 1930's.
It is called 'World's New Dental Story' and gives the amazing results obtained when children already on a so-called 'excellent diet' had the addition to their diet of two daily 8 ounce glasses of Orange juice (with the juice from half a Lemon added to each glass to enhance the flavour).
The children's diet remained exactly the same except for the addition of the Orange juice.
At the end of the year the researchers found that:
Tooth Decay was decreased by...57%
Gum Troubles were reduced by...83%
Growth rate was improved by...75%
The juice was raw and fresh squeezed using Sunkist Oranges.
When the amount of fresh Orange juice was reduced to only 3oz daily (instead of the two lots of 8oz) the amount of decay increased once again, and gum troubles also increased.
This is very inspiring to me, especially because the children's initial daily diet was high in dairy products (1 quart of milk and 1.5 oz of butter), which did not seem to help improve the state of their teeth, and it was only when Orange/Lemon juice was added that their dental health improved noticably.
I think that examples such as these, of the power of fruit helping health are very precious. It seems that fewer such studies are being carried out today, and I wonder if the pharmacuetical industry and the processed food industry have more power now than they did 80 years ago.
Fruity Fare ♥
Morning—14 fantastic Teeny-weeny Organic Oranges, juiced in my mouth. I think these have been the best of the best I have had so far on my diet, so sweet, rich and syrupy.
Afternoon—3 Teeny-weenies, 6 Biodynamic, and 2 Regular Oranges, all juiced in my mouth.

♥ Day 38 Mono Orange Juice ♥
Day 38 ♥
Then there were some young people on the slow train causing some issues. It is sad to see young people really out of it on drugs and alcohol, they have so much potential in their young bodies.
So the train was delayed while the Queensland police rushed up to the side of the train sirens blaring. All rather dramatic really for a couple of young people stuggling with life.
So we finally got to the market, lots of fast walking from the nearest railway station. Cappi was ace, kept up with me and did not complain once about the pace at which we were travelling the streets of Brisbane.
It was just before 10am when we arrived and most of the stalls had sold out. But with Orange luck there was a stall still selling fresh squeezed Organic Valencia juice. They were also selling whole Valencias, and I got the pick of all the teeny tiny small ones (that I just love—they are little balls of concentrated sunlight sweetness). These little ones are not only cheaper but tastier, but no one else seems to have that figured just yet!
Cappi had some Organic Bananas, it is just so good that everything in this market is Organic, and some Organic dried Mango.
So after our Orange juices, we went to take a look at the nursery, situated in the community city farm, next to the market.
It is a community farm/nursery, and it has the nicest feel to it; green and peaceful, and earthy and alive.

And joy of joys, they had Peanut Butter Fruit trees for sale !
So we came home not only with two bags of wonderful Organic Oranges but a Peanut Butter Fruit tree (Bunchosia argentia).
So all in all a rather grand day ♥.
What I am finding is very much that when the Oranges are of wonderful quality, I desire no other fruit.
But when they have been less than optimal, I have fancied the smells of other fruit.
Quality is just so important ♥
Fruity Fare ♥
Morning— 500mls x2 of fresh squeezed Organic Valencia juice from the market.
That is the most juice I have had at one time on this juice diet. It was very good!
Afternoon— 10 teeny-weeny gorgeous little Valencias, juiced in my mouth
Fruitful Exercise ♥
40 minutes workout
1 and a half hours fast walking.

I had a great day today; Cappi and I went to the Northey Streets Organic Market in central Brisbane.
There was some doubt if we would make the market, which finished at 10.30am, because firstly I chose the slow train, rather than the express. I guess all our decisions are really the 'right' decisions but sometimes they give us a roundabout way to get there! Then there were some young people on the slow train causing some issues. It is sad to see young people really out of it on drugs and alcohol, they have so much potential in their young bodies.

♥ Day 37 Mono Orange Juice ♥
Day 37.
The weather here in South East Queensland continues to be wonderful. Plenty of Sunshine and plenty of rain. I got caught in a Tropical downpour yesterday; it was better than any shower I have ever had. I find the rainwater just so clean and soft and energising.
Apart from enjoying the rain, I am also really enjoying reading a book, lent to me by a friend, called, 'Quantum Eating' , by Tonya Zavasta.
I can relate to much of what Zavasta writes about needing less food as one continues on the fruity path. That is not to say that enough food is not important. I just think that the enough figure is not necessarily static and that our needs can and may change as we journey along.
I think it is vitally important to get enough food, especially when one first starts out on a raw unprocessed diet.
This is an example of how important I feel it is to listen to our own bodies and their own special needs, rather than just follow what is working for someone else.
Here is a quote from Zavasta, page 281:
"Rawsome beauty is a reflection of your superior health, and, therefore, is all about individuality.
There is no absolute standard of natural beauty emerging on the raw food diet; which is precisely the reason that its pursuit is so intriguing. It is when the imperfections become beauty, as shadows are to light. It is when the autumnal face has even more grace and exquisitness in its fading than either spring or summer beauty can ever exhibit. When health contributes and sustains beauty, beauty stops being Nature's boast but becomes a sacrament."
With good old Orange synchronicity the book came to me at just a time when I could really appreciated it.
I feel that I am getting into the stored fat and doing some elimination. I have some clear mucus elimination from my throat, and a little from my eyes when I wake in the morning.
I also have some small pimples on my cheeks and forehead.
I do not feel that I am dehydrated despite not consuming that much liquid. This is because I am urinating at least 9 times a day, the urine is also copius and clear.
I had the feeling today, that as we clean our bodies and are on a lighter diet then the body may well need less water/fluid to function optimally.
I listen to my body on thirst and that usually seems to work well for me.

Nectar of The Gods—♥ Day 36 ♥
Day 36 ♥
Today, I found some really great Oranges; biodynamic and local. My Orange order has still not arrived. I guess they were closed for two weeks at Christmas/New Year but did not menton it on their website and were still processing orders.
So the Oranges although organic had not been as good as at the start of my diet.
Then I found these beauties today, and my were they good! When I have juice like I did today, I feel like I want to nothing else, and it made me realise just how important both Orange ripeness and quality are.
My late afternoon juice was truly like Ambrosia, so thick and sweet and richly smooth. Indeed Nectar of the Gods ♥
Cappi and I had a nice compliment today, we were walking through Maleny (where we found these delicious Oranges) and a lady said what great legs we both had, and how you don't see good legs anymore.
That was really nice because by the 'normal' standard in our society our legs might well be viewed as 'skinny' or 'underweight'.
I found an interesting book in a second hand bookshop. A reprint of a book originally written in 1929, it stresses the vital importance of tree crops as a food (for both humans and for foraging animals), for holding the soil structure together and for shelter. The book compares the benefits of planting trees as opposed to annual vegetable crops, especially on hilly areas.
And it gives the frightening statistic, especially bearing in mind that this book was first printed in 1929, that each year the soil washed out and blown out of the fields of the United States would load a modern freight train long enough to reach around the world eighteen times! If it ran twenty miles an hour continuously it would take nearly three years to pass your station!
The book is called 'Tree Crops: A Permanent Agriculture' and is by J. Russell Smith.
Russell Smith has journeyed around the world and has seen for himself the destruction caused by annual agriculture, especially on hilly areas.
He also has a novel idea for a 'two storey' form of farming using tree crops as the upper layer with annual crops planted below the trees on ground level.
Fruity Fare ♥
Morning—300ml of Oganic Valencia juice, using hand juicer.
Late morning —8 Oranic Valencias, juiced in my mouth
