♥ Day 70 ♥ Mono Orange Juice Diet.

Day 70 ♥
I have been reading the detailed account of the addition of Orange juice to the diets of 341 children, from 1930– 1931, in Mooseheart, Illinois, 'City of Children' village.
The account is written by Dr. Milton T. Hanke and it makes for pretty interesting reading.

There are very detailed accounts of the children's diets before the Orange juice was added, and the diet was kept the same during the tests, with the only exception being the addition of 16 oz (in two lots of 8oz) of fresh raw squeezed Orange juice daily, with the addition of a half a lemon (for taste) to each 8oz Orange juice serving.

The diets, to me, seemed woefully lacking in fruit. The average fruit consumption being less than half a pound of fruit per day.
So I would imagine that the children would have been getting less than optimal vitamin C.
This is despite the daily calories seeming quite adequate, with an average of 2, 545 calories for the girls, and 3,064 for the boys. The age range of the children was ten to seventeen.

Interestingly, after the test period, the Orange juice was reduced to just 3oz daily, and the benefits that the children enjoyed from the two 8oz daily drinks of Orange juice was greatly diminished.

So, the major recorded benefits to the children were 57% less cavities and 83% less gum disease. And in addition the children's growth rates increased by 75%.
A control group who had the same diet, but did not receive the Orange juice, had no decrease in cavities and gum disease, and no improved growth rate.

It is sad to think that the average diet of many of today's children contains even less fresh fruit than the Mooseheart children, and it just goes to show that even without taking any of the processed foods out of their diet, children on a SAD diet could hugely benefit from two big glasses of fresh Orange juice daily.
Taking into account my previous post (on Day 59) on the benefits to children and prison inmates of fresh fruit and Orange juice, it is clear that the addition of fresh raw fruit is so very important to the mental and physical well-being of our Western Society.
Even without reducing the cooked and processed foods, fresh fruit would make such a valuable addition to our children's dietary. And then imagine if the amount of processed foods were reduced what the amazing effects could be.

So looking at the United States in the 2000 cencus, there were 76.6 million children enrolled in schools.I estimate (based on the costs of my Biodynamic Oranges) that this would cost around $2.50 per day for 2, 8oz glasses of Biodynamic Orange juice.

So, for all the school children to have free fresh Biodynamic Orange juice it would cost $191.5 million dollars per day.
Seeing as the US spends $1948 million on defence each day, the cost of $191.5 million per day on Biodynamic Oranges seems a small price to pay to defend what is vitally important— our children's health.

And as a beautiful bonus there would be thousands of lovely groves of chemical free Oranges. So more tree cover, more oxygen and a better soil structure, as well as the possibility for many to work in a chemical free environment surrounded by fruit trees ♥

♥ Mono Orange Juice Day 69 ♥

Day 69 ♥
I am reminded today of how very fortunate I am to have such an abundance of great quality citrus. Not only are there more than five or six local places where I can select my own Organic or Biodynamic Oranges, but I can even get them delivered right to my door!
So, I guess it is easy sometimes to take abundance for granted, especially when there is so much great citrus for me to chose from.
I feel that, for me, it is important to appreciate this abundance and wealth that is in my life. This ability to always have access to good quality fruit, and this constant ability to be able to buy it and be nourished by it.
In his book , 'The True Power of Water', Masaru Emoto talks about the power of the words 'Thank You'.
So although it may seem a small exchange, the words 'Thank You' in return for all this beautiful fruit and the wonderful surroundings that I find myself in; I am truly Thank-ful ♥

Here is a quote from the webpage: http://www.healthrecipes.com/

"One hundred years ago, when my father was a boy, oranges were only for 'rich people', so he received one orange a year in the toe of his Christmas stocking. He treasured this annual bounty by sucking the juice from it on Christmas day. On the second day, he opened the orange and ate the pulp. On the third day, he ate the skin. Things have changed greatly over the years and now oranges are inexpensive and available everywhere."

So a Mighty ♥ Thank You to all the Mighty Oranges that have passed my lips since I began this Orange diet.

♥ Day 63 Mono Orange Juice ♥

Day 63 ♥
...And three Fruit Eaters came from the South bearing gifts of Durian...
We have three beautiful fruit eaters staying with us at the moment, Darrick, Jess and Nick, who came from Bryon Bay via Chinatown in Brisbane.

It is lovely to spend time with other fruit eaters. Cappi is having a great time (and enjoying the lovely Durian)  I am having a great time and enjoying the smell of the Durian. But I am still happy on Oranges and look forward to my juice with relish ♥
We had a bit of a beach day yesterday, and the sea air was such a tonic, and deep breathing it felt very wonderful and energising.
We managed to find some good Biodynamic Valencias on the way to the beach, so I have a nice little stock of citrus, plus I am getting an Organic delivery tomorrow morning. So the Organic Oranges continue to be bountiful and very much appreciated.
We are so fortunate in our part of the World to be able to access great quality, nicely sun-ripened fruit.
So Thank You ♥.

I feel that I am going to continue with Orange juice while my body is still eliminating. Otherwise I feel that I would be cutting short some deep-seated cleansing.
My bottom line is that I have energy and endurance and that my body feels that it is in a state of cleansing rather than a state of starvation and deprivation.
I feel that whatever raw diet one is on, listening to the body is vital. We are all very much individuals with greatly varying life histories and differing genetic backgrounds, so what may work well for one person may not be optimal for another.

I feel good physically on the Orange juice, happy mentally, and in a very beautiful spiritual place - and so I feel that an extended mono Orange juice diet is indeed working very well for myself ♥

Midday - 3 Honey Murcotts, juiced in my mouth
Afternoon - 3 Organic Oranges, juiced in my mouth.

Day 56 ♥ Mono Orange Juice Diet ♥

Day 56 ♥
Today I was running low on Organic Oranges, so I thought I would take a walk to the next small town along from us on the railway line to get a few more. I am getting a big Organic Orange delivery tomorrow, but then a girl can never have too many Organic Oranges in her larder!

It is a great walk, off the main road and through the Pineapple fields, which are at this moment full of baby Pineapples ripening up in the Summer sunshine. I was on my journey back when I heard a loud noise and there not far behind me in the middle of the field was a large crop sprayer! Yikes!
So I went at a fast pace, trying not to bump my precious cargo of Oranges, and just managing to stay ahead of the monster machine with its big arm stretching out across the field.

But it did make me think of all that is unseen. Suppose I had come along half an hour later, all the baby Pineapples looking fine and dandy in the morning sunshine, but they have just been sprayed with some toxic chemical - how would I know!?
When I am out walking, I often see council employees spraying the footpath for weeds, or people spraying their gardens, this is all the seen. But how often have I walked across a park that has only just been treated with chemicals - and simply not known it.

The chemicals used on our fields, parks, and foods are invisable for the most part to our naked eyes. But they are there. Unseen yes, but not unfelt.
Because of all the toxins that I have no personal control over, then I desire to be as chemical free in the areas of my own personal choice, such as food, household cleaners, my garden, and the fruit trees and bushes in my garden.

Closing my eyes will not make the chemicals go away, looking for only the visable toxins will not make the invisable ones disappear, but every small personal choice that I make for a chemical-free lifestyle will unite with all the other chemical-free choices being made all over the world, to help create a more beautiful environment. ♥
Sometimes the enormity of a situation can seen daunting, but I do believe that it is all the little actions adding up together that can make all the difference ♥

Day 51 Mono Orange Juice

Day 51 ♥
Today I went to a couple of local markets; one had good live music, the other good Oranges - so I was pretty happy.
Cappi got an all-fruit ice-cream from the Eumundi markets.
There is a guy there with a stall called 'Pulp Addiction' and he sells frozen fruit put through a Champion juicer. Cappi gets a large tub with Mango, Banana, and Pineapple, so he was a happy chappie too.
I found some small nicely ripe Biodynamic Valencias.
I was carrying two big bags of them when one of my bags split and there were little syrup balls rolling all around the pavement; some kind souls stopped to help me retrieve them before they rolled away into the road.

My tongue seems to be getting less coated, and my skin has gone nice and clear. A while back I was getting some elimination through the skin. I have found, however, that if I deep breath when I am getting elimination through the skin, the deep breathing helps to clear the skin.
I think because toxins are then being released more via the breathing and less through the skin. Also the extra oxygen is great for skin health, and helps speed up any elimination.

The sunshine has also been wonderful here at the moment; a great aide to elimination, skin health, and feeling wonderful.

Day 47 Mono Orange Juice ♥

POEM

The Love of an Orange by Dahlia Ravikovitch

An orange did love
The man who ate it.
A feast for the eyes
Is a fine repast;
Its heart held fast
His greedy gaze.

A citron did scold:
I am wiser than thou.
A cedar condoled:
Indeed thou shalt die!
And who can revive
A withered bough?

The citron did urge:
O fool, be wise.
The cedar did rage:
Slander and sin!
Repent of thy ways
For a fool I despise.

An orange did love
With life and limb
The man who ate it,
The man who flayed it.

An orange did love
The man who ate it,
To its flayer it brought
Flesh for the teeth.

An orange, consumed
By the man who ate it,
Invaded his skin
To the flesh beneath.

Day 46 ♥
I am still experiencing good energy, improved range of movement in joints, and a general sense of health and happiness and well-being.
I have thought about stopping, but really at the moment there is no other sweet juicy fruit that is really appealing to me.
It is like I am in the Orange Zone. Satisfied and feeling nourished on Oranges. Also I feel that I am still cleansing, so I might as well carry on some more.

When I do an extended mono diet, especially Orange juice, it really does seem to free up mental energy and physical time for other things.
I am not expending any thought on what I shall eat each day. The time I am actually physically juicing my food is very short, I also do not think about food very much, it is definitely more eating to live than living to eat.
Although I really love and appreciate my Oranges, my diet does not figure, thought-wise and time-wise, in such a big way as it does when I am eating a mixed fruit diet.

Day 45 Mono Orange Juice ♥

Day 45 ♥
I have not been weighing myself or recording any statistics so far on this diet, so I thought I would today.
These statistics are from my Tanita Inner Scan Total Balance scales.
Before I started, my 'normal'  weight was around 50kg (110lbs), and my Muscle mass is usually around 38.5kg (84lbs), while my body fat percentage is around 15%.
Today on day 45 here are my statistics:

Weight ♥ 44.5kg (98lbs)

Muscle Mass ♥ 40.1kg (88lbs)

Total Body Water Percentage ♥ 65.8% (Average for females, according to Tanita is 45–60%)

Body Fat Percentage ♥ 5%

Visceral fat Rating ♥ 1 (how much fat is around the vital internal organs rating goes from 1–59, where 1 is the least amount)

Metabolic Age ♥ 12 (not bad for a 43 year old!)

Bone Mass ♥ 2.1kg (4.6lbs) Where the  average given for women under  50kg (110lb) is  1.95kg (4.3lb).

So my muscle mass has not actually decreased but has risen slightly, while my body fat appears to be where the loss has taken place.

I am still really enjoying my Orange juice.
I feel well and loose in joint and limb, I have plenty of energy and I am not really tempted by any other fruit.
I have though put a Mango Cheek, from Cappi's special Mango tree in the freezer, so I can get to taste it when my Orange juice diet comes to an end.

Fruity Fare ♥

Afternoon—6 Biodynamic Oranges, juiced in my mouth.

♥ Day 44 Mono Orange Juice ♥

Day 44.
A poem by George Wallace:

Garden of The Nuns
I stole this orange from the garden of the nuns
to bring to you Juanita.
It dropped between the shining leaves,
and I reached down to pick it up
as the sisters meditated, behind draperies
and cool windowpanes, on the Acts of the Apostles.
And yes, Juanita, there are more oranges for you
from the garden of the nuns. This
orange I bring to you
to release you from your own meditations,
the ones that haunt you.
Take this orange Juanita. It holds the sun.

I still feel well and happy on the Orange juice. No other sweet juicy fruit is really tempting me at the moment. As long as the Orange quality is good, then I fel very contented with them.
Hopefully, I have an order of local Valencias arriving late next week. I really enjoyed the Oranges I got in Byron Bay, especially one lot from Santos, a local wholefood store.

It may be that I will miss our homegrown Mangoes, but to slightly alter a phrase by Judy Mazel, 'It will all be there next year'. Or at least in the next five years, as Mango crops often have a  really great year every five years or so.

I do not feel it is worthwhile to focus on what one may or may not have missed out on, but rather always to look to what one is experiencing right now!
I may not be getting all the local seasonal fruit but I certainly am having the most wonderful experience ♥

Days ♥ 41, 42, & 43 ♥

I have been off the computer for a few days as Cappi and I have spent a very lovely three days at Byron Bay in the North of New South Wales. Beautiful Beaches, plenty of backpackers, and lots of people and Dogs enjoying the waves.
We went to stay with a raw food lady Jess and her boyfriend Say; also staying were Freelea, Julie, Harley, Darrick, Nick, and Stephen.
Cappi was really excited to meet so many fruit lovers all in one place ♥
Such a wonderful bunch of people ♥
The beach, company and fruit were excellent and Byron is such a beautiful setting for all three.

Nick shared some great Oranges with me, they were Biodynamic ones grown in NSW.
It was a lovely three days in my Orange juice diet.
Some of the Biodynamic Oranges were the best I have had since starting this Orange Delight.
The sea air was a real energiser, as was spending time with other like-minded folk ♥

♥ Day 40 Mono Orange Juice ♥

Day ♥40♥
Kind of a special day for me. Somehow the '40 days' holds a special significance for me.
I have often done 40 day mono diets for Lent, although many of them carried on past Lent because I was having such a good time ♥
Jesus fasted for 40 days in the wilderness, and it does seem a significant number related to a dietary period.
The last few days I have been really loving the juice. A week or so back when the Orange supply was not so good, it felt a bit challenging but now it just feels great and the 'normal' diet for me.
I do however, want at some point to try our homegrown Mangoes which are now well into their season. I may have a break of a few days to try some Mangoes, or I may just carry on.
This morning we went up to Maleny and got lots of the smaller syrupy Valencias that no one else seems to pick first, so my juice today has been sublime.
I also finished reading Tonya Zavasta's book, and started to read, 'The Orange: Golden Joy' by John Train, with photos by Mark E. Smith.
There are some amazing photos of orangeries and Orange groves.
The book looks at the history of the Orange and the Orange in art.

And includes some poems:

To His Coy One
 O Orange,
 Thou ripe and juicy Orange,
 Thou sweet and luscious Orange
I shake the tree, I shake it,
 O fall into my lap!
           Goethe

I like how Goethe uses capitalisation to begin his fruit too ♥

I had a nice conversation today with a lady who has an Organic farm and an Organic delivery business. She grows Valencias on her farm, but they are just out of season, but good to know for next year.
I love connecting with fruit growers. She was also interested in the fruitarian diet.

Nectar of The Gods—♥ Day 36 ♥

Day 36 ♥

Today, I found some really great Oranges; biodynamic and local. My Orange order has still not arrived. I guess they were closed for two weeks at Christmas/New Year but did not menton it on their website and were still processing orders.
So the Oranges although organic had not been as good as at the start of my diet.
Then I found these beauties today, and my were they good! When I have juice like I did today, I feel like I want to nothing else, and it made me realise just how important both Orange ripeness and quality are.
My late afternoon juice was truly like Ambrosia, so thick and sweet and richly smooth. Indeed Nectar of the Gods ♥
Cappi and I had a nice compliment today, we were walking through Maleny (where we found these delicious Oranges) and a lady said what great legs we both had, and how you don't see good legs anymore.
That was really nice because by the 'normal' standard in our society our legs might well be viewed as 'skinny' or 'underweight'.
I found an interesting book in a second hand bookshop. A reprint of a book originally written in 1929, it stresses the vital importance of tree crops as a food (for both humans and for foraging animals), for holding the soil structure together and for shelter. The book compares the benefits of planting trees as opposed to annual vegetable crops, especially on hilly areas.
And it gives the frightening statistic, especially bearing in mind that this book was first printed in 1929, that each year the soil washed out and blown out of the fields of the United States would load a modern freight train long enough to reach around the world eighteen times! If it ran twenty miles an hour continuously it would take nearly three years to pass your station!

The book is called 'Tree Crops: A Permanent Agriculture' and is by J. Russell Smith.
Russell Smith has journeyed around the world and has seen for himself the destruction caused by annual agriculture, especially on hilly areas.
He also has a novel idea for a 'two storey' form of farming using tree crops as the upper layer with annual crops planted below the trees on ground level.

Day 31

Day 31, and the rains continue, interspersed with beautiful Sunshine. So everything is just growing and growing in the garden.
The humid, balmy climate feels perfect with my Orange juice diet.
In the past most of my Orange juice diets have been done in Winter because Oranges are really a Winter crop. I do find however, that the warmer temperatures really go well with the Orange juice diet.
I am still waiting  (excitedly) for my delivery of Oranges. Because it is holiday time they may be delayed, so I may have to go on an Orange hunt tomorrow when most of the fruit shops reopen.
I have not been doing so much day-to-day searching simply because I had found a great source of Biodynamic Valencias that I could get in bulk.
Not having to think about what I am going to eat coupled with not having to go look for it has really freed up a lot of my time and energy, both physical and mental.
It is great to go looking for fruit, I love it! But it is also nice to take a rest from that for a bit too.
My energy has been great the last couple of days, and I am still enjoying my Orange juice.
My sleep continues to be great, I find that I need 6 or 7 hours to feel refreshed and well-rested.

Day 30 Mono Orange Juice

Day 30 ♥
Today I found a new supplier of Organic Oranges, including local Valencias.
The last lot of Biodynamic Oranges I did not find ripe enough for me, so I looked for an alternative source.
I would much rather support Organic farmers and put the juice from Organic Oranges in my body.
I think that many commercially grown fruits lack that special something because they are grown in almost 'factory farm' conditions.
They do not seem to have the care given to them that local or Biodynamic or Organic fruits do.
I appreciate that the grower needs to make a living but when profit is put before everything else then I believe that that something is lost and the quality and vitality of the fruit suffers.
If I am to live off Oranges, then I neeed the most vital ones I can find.

I am feeling very limber and fluid in my joints. My body feels very 'free' and light.
I am still really enjoying my time on Orange juice, but the last couple of days have been more of a challenge because the Oranges have not been so ripe.
When one juices each Orange individually in the mouth then each one needs to taste good and ripe. I am  amazed at the range in flavours that occurs between different Oranges, and I feel that I am able to really appreciate this when I juice each fruit individually.

Merry Christmas ♥ Day 28 ♥ Season's Greetings

Four weeks of Orange juice, and Festive Greetings to all ♥
Wishing everyone Peace and Goodwill ♥

Still enjoying the beautiful nectar, and it has been giving me the necessary energy to do all that I need to do.
I actually find it easier to do my morning workouts.
I have started to lose a bit more weight now.
I am (after 4 weeks) about 2kg (4.4lbs) lower than my 'normal' weight.

I was buying fruit for Christmas dinner, and I found the smelll of the Peaches very appealing, but I could enjoy the smell without wanting to eat one, but out of all the fruit smells that I have smelt since starting the Orange Juice, the Peaches were the most appealing.

I felt as though I was eliminating a bit in the morning, my tongue was coated and I felt a bit more like being still, whereas normally I feel active in the morning.
It passed quickly though and my energy was good for the rest of the day.
The last lot of Biodynamic Oranges were not so ripe, after being simply excellent, so I am hoping that the next lot are back to the previous ripeness. I did buy some unorganic Oranges at the Farmers' Market yesterday which just looked good, and they were really nice and flavoursome and sweet.

Fruity Fare ♥:

Day 23 Mono Orange Juice

Day 23.
I am still relishing both the Orange juice and reaing Dr. Frank McCoy's accounts of helping people to heal using Orange juice.
We may not agree on all aspects of diet and healing, but this man had some wonderful successes in helping many folk to heal and re-balance.
many of them had been declared 'untreatable' by the so-called experts of the day. One young man of 24 was told by United States Government doctors that he had just 3 months left to live, after he was diagnosed with thyroid issues, an aneurism of the thoracic aorta and valvular leakage fronm the heart.
He was immediately put on a 30 day Orange juice diet, and two years later when McCoy was writing his book, the young man was still very much alive and well.

I finished clearing the grass from between the baby trees today and discovered several tiny Strawberry plants under all the grass, and also a tiny baby Star Apple and a tiny, just sprouting canistel.

Sleep and dreams are just great.
Energy is good too ♥

Day 21 Mono Orange Juice.

Three weeks on Orange Juice, and I have no desire to stop, nor am I tempted by any other fruit at the moment.
It is almost that the longer I go on Orange juice, then the easier it becomes.
I see Orange juice as my food.
One thing is that it simplifies life so much; there is no thinking about what I am going to eat.
Also I do not focus on diet so much, so there becomes more time for other things.
Today was very active for me, much of it in the hot sun, which at this time in Australia is just about the strongest it gets because we are closest to the sun on 21st of December.
I find that as long as I listen to my body and I am respectful of the mighty sun, then I do not burn.
I feel that listening to your body on how much sun it needs, plus the protective 'natural sunscreen' that a fruit diet provides means that the sun is my friend and never harmful to me.

I am still relishing Dr. Frank McCoy's book, it is amazing that a doctor sucessfully trated so many patients using an Orange Juice Cure.
McCoy also used other fasting and dietary measures, but an Orange juice diet was one of his most common treatments.

I managed to get hold of another three bags of Biodynamic Oranges, so tomorrow I will start on them again.
